For anyone who's ever wished to, but had trouble starting, keeping, or finishing a journal or sketchbook comes Wreck This Journal, an illustrated book that features a subversive collection of prompts, asking readers to muster up their best mistake- and mess-making abilities to fill the pages of the book (and destroy them). Acclaimed illustrator Keri Smith encourages journalers to engage in "destructive" acts-poking holes through pages, adding photos and defacing them, painting with coffee, and more-in order to experience the true creative process. Readers discover a new way of art and journal making-and new ways to escape the fear of the blank page and fully engage in the creative process.
My daughter received Wreck This Journal for Christmas. She was very excited because it is exactly what she asked for. I honestly didn't know what it was at first. She had recently seen it on youtube, so off to Youtube, I went. Once I saw the videos I knew it would be perfect for her. She is very creative and loves art so I knew getting this for her was a great idea.
This is not your average journal. Each page has different prompts asking you to do certain things to "wreck" your journal. Even in the book at the beginning, there is a disclaimer like this. ↓↓↓
"WARNING: During the process of this book you will get dirty. You may find yourself covered in paint, or any other number of foreign substances. You will get wet. You may be asked to do things you question. You may grieve for the perfect state that you found the book in. You may begin to see creative destruction everywhere. You may begin to live more recklessly."
My daughter really has enjoyed following the prompts and making them her own. This is a great journal for everyone. Whether you are artistic or not this will get your creativity flowing. The quirky prompts are simple to follow and so much fun! If its something they can not manage on their own as a child just have them make up their own wreck. This journal asks you to add random items, do random things, and just have fun!
My daughter is very happy with this journal and she would love to buy another one if they make another print with different prompts. Even though this is not your average journal, this is a journal we will cherish forever. I just love all the creative drawings and activities she has added so far. Honestly, I am thinking about getting one for myself. I think it would be a great stress reliever.
